Mosiah Chapter 4

Week of November 20 - 26, 2011

WEEKLY QUESTIONS

What verses stick out to me or would I like to remember?

What life lessons can I take from this chapter?

What does this chapter teach me about my Savior?

How can I apply what I've learned this week?

ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS TO PONDER

Verse 9 says "Believe that man doth not comprehend all the things which the Lord can comprehend." Why is it so important for us to believe this? What blessings can come from this belief? What experiences have you had in your life that confirm this principle to you?

Reread Vs. 14-15. What family traditions or habits have you experienced in your own family or have you seen in the families of others that have been effective in helping to teach family members to "love one another and to serve one another"?

Reread Vs. 19. Rather than encouraging us to see things from the beggar's point of view or "put ourselves in the beggar's shoes," so to speak, King Benjamin draws our attention to the fact that we are, in fact, all beggars ourselves. How might this change our perception of and our behavior toward those less fortunate than us?

Reread Vs. 26-27. How do you think the Lord would have you personally strike a balance between "impart[ing] of your substance" and doing so "in wisdom and order" right now in your life?

  1. What a wonderful chapter to read this week of Thanksgiving! One verse that I love is verse 16:
"And also, ye yourselves will succor those that stand in need of your succor; ye will administer of your substance unto him that standeth in need..." I have been the recipient countless times in my life of assistance in stressful or difficult situations. I am so grateful to all of you who, as Visiting Teachers and my sisters in the Gospel run to the aid of those in need. At one particular difficult time of my life I learned a valuable lesson about service. It's the one thing you can do no matter what your financial situation may be. One of the many blessings that come from serving is feeling spiritually uplifted and who doesn't need that?! Happy Thanksgiving dear Sisters! I love you all. Love, DeAnn R

  2. I agree, DeAnn! What an appropriate time for us to read a chapter so centered on charity. When I reflect on the abundance of blessings the Lord has given my family and me, my motivation to serve others and share what I've been given multiplies ten-fold! We are indeed all beggars and our blessings all belong to the God who has granted us them. I am also grateful for that truth that regardless of our financial situation, we can always serve. I can't tell you how often a kind word, an encouraging statement, or just a shared spiritual insight from a friend has made all the difference in my day. Knowing how much those seemingly small acts have meant to me teaches me that my small acts of love can make a big difference. That's especially nice to know when we're in our little saving-for-a-house, tightwad phase of life!
