Additional Questions to Ponder

In verses 15 - 16, Nephi says, "...My soul delighteth in the scriptures..." What are some ways that you delight in the scriptures? What are some things that can help us to better delight in the scriptures?

What can we learn from Nephi's conscious attitude shift from a grieving heart to a rejoicing heart? What key factors can we identify in this chapter that enable him to make such a paradigm shift?

In verse 35, Nephi says, "My God will give me, if I ask not amiss." How do we know whether we are asking amiss or asking for something in alignment with God's will for us?

Reread Verse 2. Have you experienced trials in your life that you feel have been "consecrated for thy gain"? What blessings have you received as a result of your trials?

In verse three, Lehi says to Jacob, "I know that thou art redeemed, because of the righteousness of thy Redeemer..." Why is it significant that we can have hope in redemption because of the righteousness of our Redeemer, rather than our own righteousness? What does this mean to you?

Lehi teaches a beautiful sermon on the Savior and on the Plan of Salvation throughout this entire chapter. What parts strike you as particularly significant or meaningful to you?

Reread Moroni's promise in verses 3-5. If you have ever taken on Moroni's challenge given in these verses, what was your personal experience and how did it affect your life? If you have not, when this week can you set aside some time to apply his challenge and what do you hope to achieve through this act of faith?

Verses 8 through 18 talk about gifts from God. With what special gifts have you been personally blessed? What is one way you can use one of your gifts this week to help Heavenly Father in His work to build His kingdom here on Earth or to serve someone?

ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS TO PONDER

In verse six, Mormon encourages his son to "labor diligently" despite the wickedness and disintegration of their civilization. Have there been times in your life when you have felt that you are laboring for a seemingly lost cause? What gives you the strength to press forward when the situation seems without hope?

Reread verses 11-14. At this point, the Nephites and the Lamanites have sunk into grave wickedness when only a few years prior they were a "civil and delightsome" people. What does this teach us about the fallibility of man? How can we apply the lessons from this part of history to our benefit today?
