Moroni 9

WEEKLY STUDY QUESTIONS

What does this chapter teach me about God's relationship with His children?
What does this chapter teach me about my Savior?

How can I use the principles and examples from this chapter to improve my own relationship with the Savior and my Heavenly Father?

ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS TO PONDER

In verse six, Mormon encourages his son to "labor diligently" despite the wickedness and disintegration of their civilization. Have there been times in your life when you have felt that you are laboring for a seemingly lost cause? What gives you the strength to press forward when the situation seems without hope?

Reread verses 11-14. At this point, the Nephites and the Lamanites have sunk into grave wickedness when only a few years prior they were a "civil and delightsome" people. What does this teach us about the fallibility of man? How can we apply the lessons from this part of history to our benefit today?

  1. I can't fathom how Mormon can still have any hope after seeing all that he's seen! But in verse 22 he adds "except they repent and return to him." He must believe that it's a lost cause, but still holds onto that tiny bit of hope that these savage people could return to righteousness.

I love that he talks of recommending his son to Christ and tells him not to be grieved or weighed down by all the bad stuff that's all around them. It's nice to think that maybe it's not our environment that counts as much as our relationship with Christ. Reread verse 25 and then check out 3 Nephi 27:14-15. It's such a wonderful parting message to leave with him son. He's so fatherly as he tries to provide the only comfort he can. I want to be more like Mormon!
